Master Woo Myung Meditation Verses – Dōn – soo (頓修)
‘Dōn-soo,’ or the practice that maintains immediate
enlightenment,
‘Dōn-soo,’ or the practice that maintains immediate
enlightenment,
One must be enlightened in order to believe.
Pitiful womenfolk sigh,
thinking of their indifferent husbands
who left for Hanyang.
He who makes his living off of
cultivating fields in the mountains
searches far and wide into its rough depths.
The countless stars that are shining bright in the sky
exist due to the Mind which is
free of wants and attachments.
The wanderer who searches in haste for the Mind
does so not knowing that he already has it.
Those who are ignorant have false, delusional thoughts, or ‘klesha’, and such ignorance is due to the absence of wisdom.
The padma garbha loka dhatu,
the tathagata-garbha world,
and the real world –
all of these are the names of Buddha’s realm.
The elderly live in their way,
A single girl acts preciously
I have come from the place
Heaven has no limit.
Man does not know that
in the state where familiar faces join hand in hand
Truth, come out.
Truth, show yourself.
Truth, make yourself heard.
‘Seon-bang (禪房)’ is a place people go to
in order to find their original nature –
to find Truth.
Man longs for the days of
those countless stories that have all disappeared.
Where they have gone, he does not know;
Time that passes is like the flowing water;
Rites are performed
People live crying for affection;
The countless experiences that man seeks to gain,
There is not a single cloud in the sky.
Come dear child, let us go to Heaven.
All living things
Upon the earth is where life is lived.
The wind is
Rain falls from the sky.
The Mind is not emptiness.
Those who are superior do not pursue ‘dō (Truth).’
The wind is blowing.
If you travel far away in a cloud,
you will find that no one exists in the cloud.
People dislike partings.
Some partings are absent of reluctance or regrets.
The one whose long golden hair blows in the wind,
Should I tell people to come?
After taking a deep breath,
I whistle a tune.
Minds make people suffer,
because minds are a continuation
of the mood of the life one lived.
Many a wanderer exists in the world,
but there is no one who thinks or says
that the life he lives is futile.
Though a familiar face is walking on the street,
people just look at him as he passes by.
The Mind of Heaven is like a floating cloud.
Spring –
the season in which all creations
On days when the wind blows,
on days when the rain pours,
I sing and dance,
The Advent of Christ refers to the return of Jesus Christ.
The still Mind is like a lake.
One must shoulder burdens.
One must shoulder burdens if
he is not of nature’s flow.
One shoulders burdens because
he defies the laws of Heaven.
If one asks what it is to live,
I answer that both living and dying do not exist.
All things in the world live lives
where life and death exist.
A person who takes pains to find Truth
has the possibility of finding it,
but a person who does not try
can neither find Truth,
nor know it.
If you were to ask me where human life comes from,
I would answer that life neither comes nor goes.
If you were to ask me how to live well,
I would answer that there is only one way to do so
and that is to become a saint.
Man must become complete in order to be absent of death.
Faith is the conviction one has in his heart – in his mind.
One believes when one’s mind believes.
Whatever it may be, a person’s mind believes it when
his mind becomes one with it.
