Santa Clara Meditation Cartoon – A Diary of an Old Man
I write in hope that many young people of this generation learn something from my writing. I was born in New York in 1938. After I graduated from high school, I immediately entered the workforce and got a job as a postman. At the young age of 24, I met my wife and married her. We had 3 kids – 2 girls and a boy. Thanks to my diligence at work, I became the postmaster, in charge of a post office. Back then, it was a very reputable and honorable job. My kids went into good universities and got married.

Earth says to rain, “Hey rain, we are truly grateful. Because you come to us, I live, and everything – grass and trees – live together! How come you don’t think of yourself? We haven’t done anything for you but still, you just come to us whenever we need you. You help and save us.”
The tale of Shim Cheong(*Shim Cheong is a name of a girl: it literally means a clean mind.) is a Korean classic tale that has been passed down from long ago. In a village, there was a girl named Shim Cheong. Her mother passed away when she was born and she lived with her father, who was blind. She was respected as a filial daughter in the village. Even at her young age, she took care of her blind father, sacrificing her own childhood for him and, without hesitation, doing the tough tasks to earn a living in order for them to survive. She was such a kind-hearted girl. She didn’t even think about getting married and she wished for her father’s sight.

A dad and his eight-year-old daughter go out for a walk after dinner. The sun is going down and the sky is aglow with the sunset. Then the daughter says, “Dad, it is almost the time the Moon rises,” and continues, “Dad, I’ve been curious about it for a long time; Since when did the Sun and the Moon work together?”
The Universe that is devoid of any material things existed before you were born and it exists whether you are born or not. Having forsaken this existence – the Universe, which is your origin and master – you are living in your own mind world that is not the mind of this existence and your whole life is the life of a dream.
Man believes that what is in the world is alive and what is not in the world or what has disappeared, is dead. In fact, it is people, humans, who are dead. Man is dead because he is not one with the eternal mind of the world. He is trapped inside his own mind, within his preconceptions and habits, formed by taking pictures of countless things from his illusionary mind world.
I, who does not possess, am beautiful
I, who can give everything, am beautiful
You, who does not possess, are beautiful
It is with great earnest that I say to you,
abandon your attachments;
abandon your discernments;
abandon what you know;
abandon your pride;
There was a king of China in history. The king had everything. He owned 5 castles and more than 80 wives. He had already owned everything since he was born. He had nothing to be jealous about as he conquered many other areas. Even for him, time passed by and he became 80 years old. He became sick. As his health deteriorated even more, he asked a favor to his most trustworthy servant.
